Second time at Smokehouse, and won't be back.
While the service was terrible on the first dining experience, the food was good enough to overlook the rude staff.
Second experience was horrible customer service, meager food, and the slowest order to service time. While the pictures in the reviews of the charcuterie display show fairly robust displays, ours was about half of what is normally served. Had it been our first time, it may have been passible. Being our second time, it was offensive and arrogant. Half of the menu was unavailable or sold out, so we made the best of it by ordering what was left, and chalked it up to the busy weekend.
The following evening, we saw our server at another local restaurant. He recognized us, and came to say hi. Members of our family of 25 had gone in smaller groups to Smokehouse a total of 5 times over the weekend. He asked how we had enjoyed Smokehouse, and there were a few comments made in disappointment of inconsistency and unavailable food items, and he said- "NOT MY PROBLEM, I'm not the owner. Welcome to Cannon Beach on Labor Day weekend!" Of the 25 years I have been to CB over Labor Day, I have never had such a negative experience.
Hopefully the owners are able to identify and correct areas of opportunity, so the next influx of paying customers aren't treated like a massive inconvenience.
Bar bites, but damn good. Pretzel! Get some beer cheese soup for it too.
A little bit of everything.
I LOVE the vibes of this place. Super funky and hip but also just so local. We popped in here per recommendation of a different bartender who didn't have any TVs for Sunday NFL games. Boy, did he point us in the right direction. Upon coming in here our lovely bearded bartender/waiter flipped on whatever game we wanted, made us aware of food specials and what they were sold out of, and climbed up into the cool attic to grab some Jamison for Irish coffees. Their canned cider was one of the best I have had and the BLOODY MARY IS INCREDIBLE- a MUST order. Smoked tomatoes? Yes, PLEASE SIR! We ended up not eating here but it looked super good and the case of cheeses was tempting. The ambiance is nice too, very small spot but perfectly intimate for a chilly beach day!
My husband and I came in on a Thursday evening for a date night. He knows how much I like a good charcuterie board so he surprised by suggesting this place. It is very tiny. Think bar. The two people behind the counter looked busy.
We ordered the board, a pretzel, a version of a Moscow mule, and water. Our server warned us that one of the sauces contained horseradish and was spicy. Awesome. My husband kept asking me if I wanted to stay. I said sure, but discovered later it was because the server had lots of hair on his shirt, maybe from a pet? It threw him off. The board had a vast variety of meats and cheeses. The pear was a nice touch. It is pricey, but I figured it was due to the location. The pretzel, fabulous. Large, hot, and also served with mustard. Delish. I want another one with some beer.
Go for a beer and a pretzel. The meat and cheese board is too high in price for us.
